What the U.S. Air Force can do for You
Recruitment into the Air Force
Deciding what you want to do after high school is a huge decision. Is college the right choice? Maybe technical school is the way to go? Perhaps jumping right into the workforce is the path for you. There are so many different options it can be difficult to navigate the multitude of choices. I sat down with Sergeant Nicholas Pack to talk about what many people consider to be the best choice as a postgraduate from high school. From financial to educational and career benefits the Airforce has a plethora of opportunities to offer.
Many people may be interested in joining a branch of the military but have no idea where to begin. If that is so, then the Armed Forces Career Center is the best place to start. Located at 796 Meadow Street, in Littleton New Hampshire, this is where anyone between the ages of eighteen and thirty-six can go to talk to Sergeant Pack about joining the Air Force. Sergeant Pack pointed out that once you’ve decided you want to enlist in the Airforce the remainder of the process takes between three to six months before basic training.
Career opportunities
If flying isn’t your thing then there are a host of different career fields within the Air Force; from technical and mechanical fields to medical career fields and even legal fields. Sergeant Pack pointed out that only seven or eight career fields involve flying.
Following a long list of career opportunities are a host of financial benefits. On average a new member of the Air Force would roughly start off with a pay package of $45,000. This includes fully paid housing and utilities plus $375 per month for food. Additional pay for personal expenses starts at a minimum of $1,600 a month.
Missions overseas
If traveling is a goal of yours then the Air Force might be something to look into. Sergeant Pack shared that he lived in several locations across the globe during his time as a Jet Engine Mechanic. The Air Force has the most travel opportunities out of any military branch due to the many installations across Europe, Asia, North America, and the South Pacific. These travel opportunities are called temporary duties and last around a month. While living in a new location you also receive additional pay for your temporary duty. Work is not the only time to travel, airmen also receive thirty days paid vacation per year
Once you’ve served within the Air Force a comprehensive retirement plan is at your disposal. New airmen decide how much of their pay goes into their 401k, the Air Force then matches up to 5% of that number. Sergeant Pack pointed out that regardless of time in service you still walk away with your entire 401k.
Thousands of people have found that the Air Force is the best financial decision they could make. With a comprehensive pay package, travel opportunities, career paths during and after service, the Air Force offers what can not be found anywhere else. All it takes to start the process is a conversation with Sergeant Nicholas Pack of the Air force Career Center.
