Prescription Take Back Day

Prescription Take Back Day

DEA National Prescription Take Back Day

On Saturday, April 27, Littleton Regional Healthcare, with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and the Littleton Police Department (LPD) is joining organizations from all over the country to recognize a day to safely dispose of prescription drugs no longer needed.  Too often, unused prescription drugs find their way into the wrong hands, with tragic outcomes.

Bring your pills for disposal to the Littleton Police Station at 2 Kittridge Lane, Littleton, NH, from 10 AM – 2 PM on Saturday, April 27th.  The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.

Littleton also has a permanent drug disposal box at the police station. The Littleton Police Department teamed up with Littleton Regional Healthcare on this project so that residents are able to dispose of meds whenever the police station is open (from Monday through Friday from 8 AM – 6 PM except for holidays).

The program accepts unused or expired prescription medications and over the counter medications. The drop box has two purposes; to prevent crime, and to protect the environment. It’s not OK to flush meds down the toilet.  Littleton’s wastewater treatment plant will not remove the chemicals in the flushed meds from the waste that pours into the Ammonoosuc River. Throwing meds in the trash poses health and safety hazards as well.

Community members in the Northern New Hampshire region can drop off their unused prescription and non-prescription drugs at the following Police Departments:  Berlin, Bethlehem, Carroll, Colebrook, Gorham, Groveton, Haverhill Lancaster, Littleton, Lisbon and Whitefield.

Guidelines

The Littleton PD asks you to follow the guidelines below:

  • Drugs include controlled, non-controlled and over the counter drugs from households and residences only.
  • Drugs may be disposed of in the original containers or in sealed plastic bags.
  • Liquid drugs must remain in the original container.
  • Do not place needles, syringes or lancets in the drop box.
