SCRAPBOOKING WITH GAYLE, BATH
Thursday, July 26, 10:00 – 11:30 AM, Bath Public Library, 4 West Bath Road. This free program, New Hampshire themed Scrapbook Page Workshop, is open to the public, adults of all ages. This is a drop-in workshop, no registration necessary. All materials will be provided free of charge. Please bring a few of your own New Hampshire photos, clippings or journal entries, etc. and tape runner, paper cutter, and craft scissors if you have them. Gayle, our local scrapbook enthusiast, will share her love of scrapbooking and offer assistance to new and experienced scrapbookers. Stop by the Bath Public Library for more information. NH CEMETERIES AND GRAVESTONES, LANCASTER
Thursday, July 26, 7:00 PM, Weeks State Park. Rubbings, photographs, and slides illustrate the rich variety of gravestones to be found in our own neighborhoods, but they also tell long-forgotten stories of such historical events as the Great Awakening, the Throat Distemper epidemic, and the American Revolution. Glenn Knoblock will discuss these deeply personal works of art and the craftsmen who carved them and learn how to read the stone “pagers” that give insight into the vast genealogical book of New Hampshire. This program will be in the Great Room of the Summit Lodge of Weeks State Park and will begin at 7:00 PM. Come early and bring a picnic supper, or climb the Fire Tower for one of the best views north of the notches. Weeks State Park is located on the east side of Route 3, approximately 2 miles south of Lancaster, NH. This free, public program is sponsored by the Weeks State Park Association, NH Division of Parks, and UNH Cooperative Extension.

The only way they all can be released from the curse is for the Beast to learn to love someone else while earning their love in return. Enter Belle, an intelligent, beautiful young woman who comes upon the Beast’s castle while trying to rescue her father. With the help of the Beast’s servants, Belle comes to appreciate and love the Beast, but the servants worry if he will learn his lesson soon enough and save them all from eternal doom. WRITERS AND THEIR MOTHERS, ST. JOHNSBURY
Friday, July 27, 7:00 PM, St. Johnsbury Athenaeum, 1171 Main Street. Rachel Hadas, Reeve Lindbergh, Patty Oliver-Smith and Gardner McFall will read from Writers and Their Mothers (Palgrave Macmillan, 2018). The book is a collection of essays about the influence of mothers on their literary offspring. Ian McEwan, Anthony Thwaite, and Margaret Drabble are also among the 22 contributors to the collection. The essays evoke both fond and tortured memories of the maternal bond and its influence on the writers.

In 1961 an unusual conversation began between the famed country singer Patsy Cline and one of her biggest fans, Louise Seger, a Houston housewife. Finding herself early at Cline’s concert, Seger surprisingly meets Cline and they strike up a coffee chat that lasts until Cline’s death in 1963. Always… Patsy Cline takes us on a musical journey of their serendipitous meeting, their genuine connection and their evolving relationship from fan worship to mutual friendship. The show provides a touching glimpse into the star’s life from the perspective of a true friend. Seger provides the narrative and Cline reappears to sing the tunes that made her famous – “Walkin’ After Midnight”, “Sweet Dreams”, “I Fall To Pieces” “Crazy” – and more. Saturday, July 28, 7:45 AM, 169 Main Street. Walkers, joggers, and peddlers of all abilities are encouraged to take part. Registration will take place 7:45 – 8:00 AM with the event commencing at 8:15 AM. The course is stroller, pet and pedal friendly. Free helmets are available at the Gorham and Berlin police departments for those in need. The fee is a monetary donation of one’s choice, which will be to donated to a friend who recently sustained a spinal cord injury while mountain biking. Email runforyou1@gmail.com for details.

Sunday, July 28, 2:00 PM, Take the long way round to the views from the cabin with a wooded walk through the Foss Forest and up to the Bronson Hill Conservation Area fields. This magnificent land is currently being conserved with ACT by its generous landowner and through the support of ACT members. It adds to an already significant unfragmented tract which will total approx. 600 acres. This beautiful property has a trail system open to the public and is home to wildlife and features splendid views of Franconia Notch. Wear comfortable clothing for being outdoors, boots or sneakers that can get dirty, sunscreen, bug dope, a hat, etc. This event is free and open to the public; $5 donations are gladly accepted.
