GNTV Launching GoFundMe
Station seeking $30,000 to replace out-dated equipment
On Wednesday, August 8th at 3PM, Granite North Television will launch it’s first GoFundMe campaign for station funding. This campaign is to raise the much needed capital to help us replace a critical piece of equipment for our station. Our broadcasting playback server, the device that schedules our programs to air on the station, and communicates with the antenna to send our signal is, is now at its “end of life”.
The discontinued model was placed out of service more than 3 years ago and replacement parts are no longer available for it. This means, should a component inside of the machine fail, the entire system goes down. Just like every piece of technology, time and extended use has weighed heavy on our video server. Our fear is that if we don’t find the funding to replace the component, the station will go dark. Our hope it to gather enough funding to replace this, and set the station up for continued growth.
Upgrade opportunity
As dire as the situation is, the benefit is the opportunity to raise the production bar here at the station. Technology has advanced quite a bit in the last 8-10 years. Along with those advancements, the versatility and scalability has also advanced. Currently the station is only capable of going “live” from the Littleton High School studio space, and it’s gymnasium. A new video playback servers would be able to operate on IP technology. This technology would allowing us to “go live” from anywhere that an internet connection is available. If we have service (thorugh a wifi hotspot, or bonded cellular connection) we cna go live to the station. For example… live meetings from Bethlehem. Live performances from the Opera House. Live parades in Lancaster… the opportunities grow immensely. And remember… this is live to the TELEVISION… not just live to facebook or youtube (which we have already experimented with)
Launch date
The campaign is slated to go live at 3PM on Wednesday, August 8th. This gives us enough time to share the news, spread the word, and hopefully solicit a groundswell of support early on. Over the next few days, leading up to the launch, we will be adding a special “GoFundMe” page to this site. This will be a homebase for the campaign with information on the status of the fundraiser, details on the equipment we are looking to purchase, as well as special notes of thanks form the Board and yours truly.
We can’t wait for all of the opportunities that this new equipment will provide us. Stay tuned and remember to “GIVE, SHARE, WATCH”
