NOFA-NH’s 21st Annual Winter Conference, The Art of Food & Farming: Skill Sharing For a Brighter Future
Concord, NH, January 5, 2023: The Northeast Organic Farming Association of New Hampshire (NOFA-NH) is proud to present its twenty first Annual Winter Conference, “The Art of Food and Farming: Skill Sharing for a Brighter Future,” held in person at Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester, NH and live streamed online on Saturday, February 11, 2023.
In the essay “The Gift of Good Land”, Wendell Berry demonstrates that impacting our communities must come from the acts, and skills of its people. Learning is the root of change. The 2023 Winter Conference is getting back to the basics as we center actionable skill development that builds the knowledge of our community to create the change we hope to see.
The conference schedule is packed with over 23 workshops covering a range of topics geared towards farmers, gardeners, non-profit professionals, educators, and community members interested in impacting the local food system and building actionable skills. Sample workshops include increasing winter production by growing micro greens, getting involved in NH politics, timber framing, managing stress on a farm, making no-till work for organic growers, engaging children in gardening, how to ferment, and so much more.
NOFA-NH is excited to welcome Mark and Kristin Kimball of Essex Farm, NY to deliver the 2023 Keynote Address. Essex Farm is a 1,500-acre sustainable, diversified farm in the Champlain Valley of Upstate New York offering a full diet, year-round CSA Membership with weekly on-farm pick up and direct door-to-door delivery. The farm produces healthy, transformative food, including vegetables, meats, dairy, eggs, grain, fruit, and more. Essex Farm has trained and mentored over 250 beginning farmers who have started more than 50 new farms to date. Kristin Kimball is also the author of the highly regarded books The Dirty Life and Good Husbandry. Mark and Kristin will be sharing stories of their community focused practices that have helped them grow, including what has worked, what hasn’t, and what they are looking forward to in the next 20 years.
In addition to these valuable learning opportunities, the conference includes the Green Market Fair with numerous industry exhibitors, fun collaborative art projects, delicious seasonal food, and beneficial networking opportunities.
