HIV/AIDS Virtual Town Hall Series

HIV/AIDS Virtual Town Hall Series

Join the conversation!

On Tuesday, September 29th, North Country Health Consortium (NCHC) launches a virtual town hall learning series entitled, “Harm Reduction & Rural Health: Taking Action for our Communities.” This 4-part program will address a growing public health concern in rural areas— HIV/AIDS outbreak— and share strategies to reduce harm and prevent a surge of HIV and Hepatitis C in our Northern New Hampshire communities.

NCHC’s Wellness And Recovery Model (WARM) and AskPETRA programs are partnered with the HIV/HCV Resource Center in Lebanon, NH, Dartmouth-Hitchcock, NH Harm Reduction Coalition, and NH Listens, to host the informative series. Each 2-hour long session is presented live virtually and includes an expert speaker, Questions & Answers section, and a community conversation facilitated by NH Listens

Presentation Dates

Beginning at 3 pm, presentation dates and topics are as follows:

  • Sept 29 – Preventing a Rural HIV Outbreak in NH
  • Oct 20 – Syringe Service Programs, Harm Reduction & Naloxone
  • Nov 17 – Medical Care – Treatment as Prevention and PrEP
  • Dec 1 – HIV Testing & Linkage to Medical Care

You are welcome to attend one, some, or all four sessions. All are invited to join the conversation— or just come to listen and learn!

The Goal

The goal is to have participation from a wide range of people, walks of life, and professional disciplines from across our North Country region and communities. This includes community members, health care providers, medical and behavioral health administration, emergency response personnel, law enforcement, social service organizations, public health, faith groups, community coalitions focused on substance use disorders, the recovery community, Recovery Friendly Workplaces, Corrections and specialty courts, legislators, and others.

“Dealing with the outbreak was more about relationships than science,” said Surgeon General, Jerome Adams at a January talk, speaking to lessons learned during the HIV outbreak in the southern Indiana community of Austin, which became known as the worst drug-fueled HIV outbreak to hit rural America. “I knew we’d never be successful without ensuring that those trusted community leaders and advocates were invested in part of the solution.”
