A Celebration of Whitman

A Celebration of Whitman

Whitman’s 200th Birthday

Walt Whitman once said, “I have learned that to be with those I like is enough.” The Frost Place’s special celebration of Whitman’s 200th birthday is indeed a chance to be with the people we like and to do what we love most.

As Whitman says, we will “celebrate and sing”. Join us for poetry, discussion, and a stage-reading of the Whitman-inspired script “America & Me” by actor/scriptwriter William Kinsolving. The event is on Tuesday, August 20th, at 7:00 PM at the Frost Place in Franconia, NH.

William Kinsolving is a writer, playwright, singer, and performer of various genres. He will present a stage-reading, “America & Me,” that is centered around the occasion of Whitman’s 67th birthday, his poetry, and Whitman’s vision of what his role as a poet in America should be. After the presentation, there will be a reception with a birthday cake and sparkling beverages on site.

There will also be a community reading and sharing of favorite Whitman passages. This will take place in the Holt Barn at the Frost Place. On Sunday, August 18th at 3:00pm. Followed by an informal panel discussion about the role of the poet as witness during times of national and international disruption.

Suggested donation for “America & Me” is $15.00. The community reading and panel discussion is also by donation. Both events are open to the public. Teachers will receive a discount on selected books and other items in the Barn until August 24th. Special commemorative merchandise will be available for purchase. For more information, or if you would be interested in reading your favorite Whitman passage at the event, please call the Frost Place office at 823-5510 or email frost@frostplace.org.
