NOFA-NH Launches CRAFT Program

Program to provide Workforce Development

The Northeast Organic Farming Association of New Hampshire (NOFA-NH) is launching a CRAFT Program focused on workforce development in New Hampshire’s organic farming sector in Merrimack County.

This CRAFT (Collaborative Regional Alliances for Farmer Training) Program provides opportunities for farmers, aspiring farmers, farmworkers, and the food-aware public to learn from experienced growers, share with peers, acquire technical education and build social support.

CRAFT Programs are based upon national models that focus on best practices in organic farming and networking for farmers, farmworkers, and Eaters. They include fair labor education and improved recruitment, retention, and management training for employers. This program is poised to serve established and beginning farmers interested in organic farming careers in New Hampshire. As well as the general public concerned with developing a healthy and vibrant local food system.

NOFA-NH is proud to partner with the following farms in the pilot program. Each participating farm will host an educational farm tour this summer or fall. Tours will be open to the public at a $5 fee for individuals and $10 fee for families. They’re free to farmers, farmworkers, and NOFA-NH members. The farms and dates are:

  • Brookford Farm Canterbury NH (06/01/19 1:00pm– 3:00pm) – Tour a biodiverse farm with everything from carrots to cows
  • Work Song Farm Hopkinton NH (08/03/19 3:00pm – 5:00pm) – In the midst of abundance, they’ll also explain ways to extend the season
  • Kearsarge Gore Farm Warner NH (10/05/19 2:00pm – 5:00pm) – This tour will include a roundtable discussion about optimal ways to conserve and build the soil’s fertility and microbiome
