Hitchiner facility finds new Owner
Hitchiner Manufacturing facility is sold to Developer Bob Chapman
News of the sale whispered through the town before the official announcement was made on Thursday afternoon. Executive Councilor Joe Kenney welcomed press, business owners and key players involved with plans for the development process to the press conference. Held within the Tower room of the Littleton Opera House, the small crowd of 30 or so people welcomed the news. “Now we have a job ahead of us taking care of that building.” Chapman said to the group. He went on to say there would be about 4-6 weeks before any decissions for the site are finalized. An announcement is forthcoming on the official plans.
When asked if there were plans to bring down portions of the building, Chapman replied that there was a good possibility. Councilor Kenny quickly joked “There’s a good possibility, because what does he do? He knocks down buildings”. The North Country Developer has made a name for himself for his acquisition of older industrial properties,such as the one under construction in Groveton. He purchases them and brings them back to life through his demolition and rehabilitation projects.
Plans for the site
Councilor Kenney said that topic of using the site for a Community College is “Very much on the table” The project is currently slated as a mixed-use property. Charles Lloyd, President of the White Mountain Community College spoke to the crowd about possible opportunities within the new facility. Charles said that at WMCC they “view Littleton as a college campus.” The possible educational element discussed for the old Hitchiner plant could include dormitory housing for students, as well as business incubator space.
